Project Timeline

The NaiKun Offshore Wind Energy Project is at an advanced stage of development with environmental certification from the Provincial Government and agreements in place with key suppliers and First Nations. Given its development status, construction can begin within two years of the award of an electricity purchase agreement. NaiKun’s major development milestones (both achieved and anticipated) are outlined below:

February 2007 Meetings with community groups and local governments
March - July 2007 Public Comment Period on Draft Terms of Reference for Environmental Assessment
December 2007 Terms of Reference Approved
January 2006 - 2009 Extensive environmental and engineering field work completed*
July - October 2008 Consultation on project design and environmental studies
November 2008 Submission of commercial project proposal to BC Hydro
May 2009 Submission of Application for an Environmental Assessment Certificate
May 20 2009 Start of 180-day Environmental Application Review Stage
May 28 - July 12 2009 Public Comment Period (Consultation) on NaiKun's Application for an Environmental Assessment Certificate
December 10 2009 Provincial Environmental Assessment Certificate Granted
March 2010 BC Hydro Selects Successful Proponents in Clean Power Call
Mid 2010 Federal environmental decision anticipated
* Some studies commenced in 2002, majority commenced in 2006.
